Resolutions: Growth

My friend Amanda at One Extra Degree is hosting today’s Linky!

I have some big goals for my teaching.  Probably way too many for one post but I will say that I feel like I’ve become a much better teacher just by reading fabulous teacher blogs. I am proud to say I am surrounded by some of the best teachers ever!

One of my goals this year and next is to better integrate vocabulary instruction into my week. We don’t use a basal, so I need to make sure I do a better job of direct vocabulary instruction. My kiddos love being Word Wizards and using “big” new words in their writing and speaking.
This is a book I’ve read, but want to re-read.
I also wanted to read more about the Common Core. I just want to make sure I’m reading those standards correctly.  So I’m reading this book as well.
In other professional development news. I’m also working on updating my centers and making some new, fun materials for my students, while still incorporating the common core.  For those of you who purchased my Wonderful Winter Center Pack, I added a ton more! So please go download them again. And for those of you who need new centers when you return…this pack is overflowing with stuff.

Make sure you hop over to Amanda’s awesome site and enter the Blessings Giveaway!
A winner is selected each day!!!

  1. Your winter pack looks great!!! I'll be adding it to my TpT wish list in just a mn here. Then, when my TpT spending ban is lifted, I'll be buying it. 🙂 I've been a bit TpT cray-cray.

And, I agree with you on the vocab thing…I'm curious about Bringing Words to Life! I'm currently reading Pathways to the Common Core by Calkins/Ehrenworth/Lehman. Thought provoking…it's taking me a while because I have "marinate" on the ideas.

Would be sooo thrilled if you linked up in the Shout Out Linky I'm co-hosting starting January 1st.

  2. I have Bringing Words to Life, but have yet to read it! Thanks for reminding me 🙂 I would like to work on my vocabulary instruction, too! Some of the best vocab techniques I've seen came from a webinar I watched about Sharon Taberski's strategies {I think she's the author of several books, but I haven't read any}. I found a blog post that describes some of what I saw in the webinar: http://wonderingthrough2012.blogspot.com/2012/03/wonder-words-using-wonderopolis-to.html. Good luck!
