Hey Y’all, It’s Fall!

Hey sweet teacher friends. I feel like my blogging has been downright pitiful and I’m sorry. But it’s fall y’all and I’m in love with fall weekends with my family.   Besides there is so much to do. Pumpkin patches, football, and friends.  Therefore, my usual teacher duties have been slightly neglected, but I promise my head is going to be put back on straight and I will be back soon with lots of fun ideas and freebies.

Until then I’m just going to share some of my activities from last week.
Here is our favorite farm animals graph and data collection.

Next, I thought I’d share how we introduce Sight Words.
Each Monday I put the 5 new word wall words on the board. Then we stick the word on the school bus and sing the ever so popular, “The Word on the Bus says, “there, there, there” …
After we sing the word, we cheer and clap for the word, then skywrite it.  When all 5 words have been introduced with this process, we put them in ABC order.

Throughout the week we play lots of fun sight word games to practice the words. My kiddos also decorate their words, do Mix it, Fix it, Write it. And other fun activities from my Super Sight Word Pack.  My students that don’t know their sight words by the end of the week get lots of extra help. I use flash cards, my sight word games and Bingo to practice with parent volunteers.  At the end of the week the 5 new words are put on the word wall.

Speaking of words, we also have to practice our spelling words for the week.  Right now our words are all short vowel patterns.  I don’t know about you but my kiddos need lots of practice with decoding. So I made a fun sheet that requires them to read words with their spelling patterns and they have to determine if their words are real or nonsense.  Added bonus…my kiddos get to use highlighters, which is like giving them candy.  You can click below to download our first two sheets.
I also wanted to let you all know that I’ve added to my Halloween Center Pack. I added another math and literacy center. Plus a super cute emergent reader and a listening center sheet. So if you’ve already purchased, please go back and download it again. If not you can grab it below.
PS. I had lots of requests for my bus, so click the bus below to download.
Have a great night!

  1. Trying that post again….too tired and too late at night 🙂

Love, love, love the ideas, especially the ABC order when introducing the words. I had never thought of that before, so simple but so effective. I absolutely love the bus that you use for your song. Can you share where you got it from?
