No this post is not about how much I would love a snow day. Although, I wouldn’t mind a snow day or two or three. Instead, this post is about my week ahead. I know I’ve not been very good with the visual plans. It’s a LOT of work! My friend Deedee Wills pulls it off weekly. She’s a rockstar. Me, not so much. So I’ve decided to just post my regular plans and include links.

Included in my plans is a text talk lesson for the book Sneezy the Snowman. I’ve decided to do a read aloud as part of my morning routine on Monday so I can use the book to hit some of the common core that I might neglect. One item being, direct vocabulary instruction. Last post I showed you this guy:
Around him, will go 3 words per week from our read aloud. I bought stars and my kiddos who use the word wizard words through out the week will get to add their name to a star.
You will also see that during Interactive Writing we will be doing a “How To” writing. Our usual interactive writing includes sharing the pen to write a sentence each day. I have my kids write the words on their white boards as we write it together on the chart. Instead, this week, I’ve created a mini book for my kiddos to write in as we write on the chart. Our theme this week is snow. We’ll be doing a little properties of matter experiment with snow. Here is the sheet my kiddos will fill out on Tuesday.
We’ll also be discussing schema this week and talking about making connections. My lessons come from Debbie Miller’s Reading with Meaning. While reading in their book nooks, my students will be filling out schema and connection graphic organizers from this pack.

This is our last week of 2nd quarter, so our sight word center will be the good old, rainbow words. I just copy this front to back and students choose 8 words from the word wall to rainbow.
For our poetry center, students will practice writing dialogue and using quotation marks.
