Last week we started reading The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats. I love this story and it’s perfect for Shared Reading.
Many times after learning about predicting or practicing sequencing, we then break into groups and students work on the same standard with an activity that has been differentiated.
Last week, we worked on asking questions before, during and after reading. We also discussed setting and using the details in the story to help us identify the setting.
Student also used their knowledge of setting to help them write a story about a walk in the winter.
Most of my kiddos wrote a story, while a few of my students who are still developing as writers did a fill in the blank writing. We shared them with the class and I was quite impressed with their details.
This week we’re going to continue the story and activities, due to our snow days. We’ll be working on sequencing, cause and effect, central message, compound words and verbs this week while reading the story.
