Medicine and Math

Hi teacher friends! 
    I feel like I’ve been away from the blogging world for years. It was a week at Spring Break and then a few days in between, but phew…some of you have been crazy busy and then there’s sick and sorry old me.  No lie, I’ve had some stomach bug for the past 48 hours and it’s killing me! And whether or not I’m better tomorrow, we all know I’ll be going to school, because teachers aren’t allowed to be sick.  EVER!! So I’ll struggle my way through Friday and here’s hoping for a better weekend.  
  So, I do promise to get back into the swing of things for the end of the year.  I’ve just hit a few road bumps that require medical attention along the way.  🙂 So while I was hurled over with stomach pains, I managed to make a math review/assessment.  At the end of next week, our first grade will begin giving an end of the year math assessment on the first grade standards.  We do this now, so we can see where our strengths and weaknesses lie and those are what we focus on until the end of the year.  In order to prepare for this big test, I decided to make review sheets for between now and then.  If you don’t have an assessment, but would like to see how your kiddos are doing, you can use this document for that as well.  If you’d like it, just click on the picture below.  

You also have to see what the sweet people of Creative Teaching Press sent me.  It was such a fun surprise.  I got a huge box in the mail and it was an instant Christmas in March.  I love CTP and everything they sell.  My favorites are Dr. Jean’s books that I use at the beginning of the year to help my non-reader’s build fluency and confidence in their ability to read.  But now I have some new faves. They sent me the cutest alphabet. You all know, just how particular I am about my classroom. In fact, I haven’t found an alphabet I’ve liked in quite some time. But this is adorable. And their new black and white borders and matching birthday chart and library pockets are so fun. Finally something pretty and not cheesy.  I think these are perfect not only for primary but secondary teachers as well.  And finally, how stinkin’ cute are the buckets and buttons. Wouldn’t these buttons be perfect for bucket fillers?

Finally…Next week we’ll be doing one of my favorite units. BASEBALL!! I’m currently working on some center activities for next week. I’ll post them as soon as they are finished.  Hope you all have a fantastic Friday.

  9. Michelle, I LOVE this math review! It is a perfect assessment tool for me to use. My school doesn't have a combined assessment, only individual end of unit assessments.

  15. Hello, I've just become a follower of your blog!! And in the words of my firsties, "STUPENDOUS"!! (We are trying to expand our vocabulary :P).

    Thanks Michelle for sharing your math review. I was just scratching my head tonight thinking about some sort of quick assessment for them. My math centers are losing my kiddos' attention so this is a great way to see what they need to focus on in math.
